Contacts & lists

OpenContact keeps a canonical record for every contact it captures or observes: their email, name, company, country, tags, custom fields, consent, first-touch source, and current subscription status. This is the single place you can trust for who’s who and who’s opted out.

Contacts

Browse and search contacts by name, email, or company. Open any contact to see its full profile and a timeline of events — created, status changes, unsubscribes, and syncs — so you can see exactly what happened and when.

Statuses are: subscribed, unsubscribed, suppressed, bounced, complained, and unknown. A contact’s status drives what your sync rules do — a suppressed contact is never upserted, only suppressed downstream.

Lists

A list is a group of contacts. Every contact always belongs to at least one list — OpenContact never leaves a contact “listless.” Lists are used to:

  • Target a specific audience in a sync rule.
  • Organize contacts by source, campaign, or segment.
  • Drive the “added to a list” trigger.

Managing membership

From a list you can:

  • Add selected contacts to another list (bulk).
  • Remove contacts (they fall back to your default list if they’d otherwise be listless).
  • Unsubscribe selected contacts in bulk.
  • Export the list (or a selection) to CSV.

Custom fields & tags

Contacts carry arbitrary custom_fields and tags, which you can filter on in sync rules and map to provider-specific fields when you send them out. OpenContact suggests the custom-field and consent keys it has seen so your rule builder autocompletes them.

Importing & exporting

  • Import contacts from a CSV, or pull them in from a connected tool.
  • Export any list to CSV for backup or analysis.
