Run the workflow at the moment that matters

Triggers let a sync rule respond to a precise contact event instead of repeatedly processing an entire audience.

New contacts

Use Created when a workflow should happen once: add a new lead to a welcome audience, notify a CRM, or place a first-time booking into a follow-up list.

Later field edits and repeat form submissions do not re-run a Created-only rule.

Contact updates

Use Updated when an existing contact changes and destinations need the new profile data. Use Created or updated for continuous synchronization from the first capture onward.

Unsubscribes, bounces, and complaints

Suppression triggers start when a provider reports that a contact unsubscribed, hard-bounced, or marked a message as spam.

Build one set-and-forget rule that suppresses the contact everywhere, or use conditions to choose exactly which lists and providers should change.

List membership

Start a rule when a contact joins any list or one specific list. This turns an internal OpenContact list into a clean handoff between workflows—for example, joining “Qualified leads” can route a contact into a sales system.

OpenContact prevents list-trigger loops when one rule adds a contact to a list that could activate another rule.

Specific without breaking the default

A Created event can match both Created-only rules and the general Created-or-updated trigger. Other events match their own trigger type. This lets broad synchronization rules continue working alongside more precise automations.
